Fashions come and go but being environmentally friendly seems to be here to stay. Three years ago we wouldn’t think twice about the carrier bags we use at the supermarket. Nowadays they’re strictly rationed by the person behind the till. Everything we throw away has to be recycled and most councils in the country even provide us with specially collected recycle bins. There are opportunities in every room in your house for you to be saving energy and money. The one room that easily gets overlooked is the bathroom. They’ll be at least one bathroom in every house with some having even more. The size of your bathroom is irrelevant you can still make it eco friendly.
Let’s start with the lighting as this is probably the easiest thing to change. These days you’ll probably struggle to buy incandescent light bulbs. The government is looking to have them fazed out of shops by the next two years. Energy efficient light bulbs will last on average ninety percent longer than the traditional bulb. Energy efficient bulbs are also safer too as the don’t expel heat. Bathroom lights need to be flattering whilst being bright enough to see what you’re doing.
The toilet might take a bit more planning compared to changing a light bulb. Around 14 litres are used every time an older cistern is flushed. If you decide to upgrade to a more modern design you’ll be using a lot less water. Duel flush toilets also allow you to lose even less water for when you’re just flushing water waste.
Taking a relaxing soak in the bath maybe one of life’s pleasures but it uses up a lot of water. With the average bath using over eighty litres each time that’s water straight down the drain. Saving your bath for the most stressful of days and usually having showers will save you lots of money. By using a state of the art shower head like the ones offered by Mira Showers you could be saving even more water.
