One of the UK's leasing weather forecasters, TheWeatherOutlook, has suggested that there's going to be around a 50% chance of snow this Winter. Even if many of us don't end up seeing snow this year, we willdefinitelybe in for a colder than normal Winter. Not what we want to hear when we look at our heating bills.
This Autumn was quite mild temperature wise, we only experienced increased rain fall. However, as we get into Winter, the weather has started to change. We are starting to see the cold weather kicking in and this will come as quite a shock to the system for many.
Almost 37,000 people died last year due to the cold spell that we had during Winter. This death toll rose by almost 50% on the previous year. Of those 37,000 that died, well over 90% of them were pensioners because they are the mostvulnerabledue to being unable to pay heating bills and being more likely to catch cold based health problems.
Now as we face another cold Winter, plus as we are still in a recession, it's estimated that even more pensioners will die from the weather conditions this Winter. There are some methods of staying warm while paying less. One would be the use of portable heaters which provides a good source of affordable heat without needing to use the central heating. A fan heater is another alternative to powering up the central heating. These portable heaters provide an almost instant supply of heat however, they do require mains power which will raise your electricity bill.
The final alternative would be the paraffin heater. These highly portable appliances are very cheap to power and require no wires for improved portability. The majority of the modern units are very stylish and provide alot of heat. They also come with a range of safety features included such as an anti-topple feature which turns the heater off if it's knocked over.
Using just one of the above would help to reduce the death toll we see each Winter. Unfortunately you can't buy indoor patio heatersas these are a great source of heat. As for those of us that survive the Winter chill, we will be able to look ahead to what's suggested to be the warmest summer ever.
